Boy charged over Townsville and Cairns property offences: A 12-year-old boy was charged yesterday following investigations into a string of offences committed between Townsville and Cairns over the weekend. It will be alleged he stole a motor vehicle from a Kirwan residence at around midday on Saturday and drove to Cairns, allegedly stealing fuel at Cardwell. It will be further alleged that he and others committed a number of burglary offences in the Earlville and Mooroobool areas. The boy was apprehended by residents of a Callaghan Street residence after he had allegedly unlawfully entered the dwelling at around 6.20pm yesterday. He was arrested and charged with two counts each of burglary and entering a dwelling with intent, as well as one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicenced driving and stealing. He will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992. The stolen vehicle was later located at Edmonton and has been seized by police.
Man charged for offences whilst on bail, Cairns: Detectives charged a 52-year-old Little Mulgrave man on Friday following investigations into a number of incidents alleged to have occurred whilst he was on bail for another matter. He was charged with one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice and eight counts of breaching a condition of his bail and has been remanded to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Man charged over workplace theft, Cairns: Detectives charged a 46-year-old Goldsborough man on Friday following investigations into the theft of training equipment from his Cairns North workplace in late June. He was charged with one count of stealing as a servant and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 23.
Witnesses sought to Smithfield traffic crash: Cairns Forensic Crash Unit investigators are seeking witnesses to a two vehicle traffic crash that occurred on the Captain Cook Highway at Smithfield on Friday morning. Around 9.15am, two contractors were working on a damaged light pole on the southern side of the Smithfield roundabout when a utility left the road and struck their parked vehicle. The collision caused the parked vehicle to strike both men. A 40-year-old Stratford man and another aged 49 from Palm Cove sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. The 35-year-old male driver of the other utility sustained minor injuries and all three were transported to the CairnsBaseHospital for treatment. Burglary offence, Mooroobool: An investigation is underway into a burglary at a Lime Street residence on Thursday afternoon. Thieves forced entry to doors at the rear of the property sometime between midday and 5pm. A sum of cash, computer equipment, liquor, mobile phones, keys and other items were stolen. Damage was also done to a number of other doors at the residence where entry had been attempted.
