Smithfield detectives, assisted by their Mossman colleagues, arrested and charged a 34-year-old Manoora man yesterday as part of an investigation into burglary offences at a Port Douglas resort complex.
It will be alleged that two unit residences with unsecured doors were targeted overnight on August 3 with handbags, purses, jewellery and other items stolen.
The man was charged with two counts of burglary and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 1.
In a similar but unrelated incident, two 25-year-old Clifton Beach men were charged yesterday afternoon following investigations into the alleged burglary of a residence in the early hours of yesterday morning.
It will be alleged that entry was gained to the Upolo Esplanade residence via an unlocked door around 1am, with money and a set of car keys stolen. Smithfield detectives located and arrested the men shortly after midday and they were each charged with one count of burglary.
One of the men is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today whilst the second man is scheduled to appear on September 25.
Police are reminding residents to be mindful of their personal and property safety by undertaking basic security precautions.
Open or unlocked doors provide an open invitation for opportunistic thieves to enter your residence and steal your hard-earned belongings.
