Rape charge, Westcourt:  Detectives charged a 37-year-old Westcourt man last night following investigations into an alleged sexual assault incident yesterday.

It will be alleged that the 22-year-old male victim attended an address on Jackson Close at Westcourt yesterday afternoon to inquire about a room for rent, and consumed a quantity of liquor with the man.

It will be further alleged that he subsequently passed out and awoke to find he was being sexually assaulted.  A physical altercation then occurred and the victim contacted police.

The resident was charged with one count of rape and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 2.

Man charged over break and enter incident, Cairns North:  Police charged a 22-year-old Edmonton man early on Saturday morning following the alleged break and entry of a Cairns North premises.

Police crews were called to the McLeod Street business shortly after 2am and located a smashed window at the front of the building.  Officers subsequently located the alleged offender asleep on a couch inside the premises.

He was taken into custody and charged with breaking and entering premises and stealing, and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 29.

Pair charged over CBD assault incident:  Two Cairns North men aged 22 and 32 were charged on Saturday morning following the alleged assault of a 29-year-old Cairns man that occurred on Lake Street.

It will be alleged that the victim was walking with friends shortly before 1am when a verbal exchange occurred between he and the alleged offenders.  The situation escalated into a physical altercation and the victim ran off after allegedly being assaulted.  He was allegedly pursued along Lake Street on foot before being further assaulted and losing consciousness as a result.  He sustained facial injuries as a result of the incident.

The two men were each charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 30.

Nuisance phone call charges, Earlville:  A 54-year-old Mareeba man was charged late last week following an investigation into harassing telephone calls as well as the alleged misuse of the triple zero emergency service.

It will be alleged that the man made a series of harassing phone calls to an Earlville woman on May 30.  He also allegedly used the triple zero service to make a vexatious call to police on the same date.

He was charged with one count each of using a carriage service to menace of harass, as well as improper use of an emergency call service and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 19.

Property charges, Cairns:  Officers from the Cairns Property Crime Unit have charged a 14-year-old Manunda boy following investigations into a significant number of property related offences committed across the greater Cairns area since the beginning of June.

He was charged with a total of 12 offences including five counts of breaking and entering premises and stealing, three counts of fraud and one count each of stealing, escaping lawful custody, burglary and obstructing police.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at Bentley Park, Bayview Heights, Westcourt, Manunda and Manoora between June 1 and 12.  The boy will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.
