Busy on the beat, Earlville: Stockland Police Beat staff were kept busy over the weekend with a number of theft investigations and arrests. Late on Friday afternoon, officers detained a woman who had allegedly entered several stores in the Earlville complex and stolen a number of items of property.
A 34-year-old Manoora woman was charged with four counts of stealing and was also charged with one count of trespass as a result of having been previously banned from attending the complex.
The woman is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 6.
At around midday on Saturday, officers were called to an incident at an electronics retail store in the Earlville complex.
It will be alleged a man attempted to steal a set of headphones from a store display, threatening staff on being detected. He then allegedly fled from the store and was apprehended by police and security staff within the centre. Inquiries revealed the man was allegedly a person of interest in another matter at an Edmonton supermarket where staff were threatened.
He was charged with two counts each of stealing and committing a public nuisance offence, and one count each of attempted stealing and trespass. He was also charged with unlawful possession of explosives and unlawful possession of a knife in public after officers located fireworks and a knife in his possession.
The man is due to reappear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 13.
Burglary and vehicle theft, Manunda: An investigation is underway into a burglary that occurred at a Mayers Street residential unit overnight on Monday.
Preliminary investigations indicate unknown people scaled a first floor balcony and gained entry to the unit via unlocked balcony doors. A handbag, two wrist watches, two phones and other items including a set of car keys were stolen. A set of keys was then used to steal the owner’s motor vehicle, which was parked outside the unit.
The vehicle was subsequently located in Alfred Street on Tuesday seized for examination. The handbag was also located after apparently being discarded and has been returned.
Police are reminding residents to review their home security arrangements in order to thwart opportunistic thieves by ensuring doors and windows are adequately secured.
