Unexploded ordinance, Cape Melville: A solo sailor has gone ashore on a remote area beach at Cape Melville during rough weather at the weekend and located what he suspected to be an unexploded military ordinance.

The 55-year-old Port Douglas man left the projectile in situ and contacted Police. Arrangements have been made for ADF personnel to identify and dispose of the projectile.

Property charges, Cooktown: Cooktown detectives yesterday charged a 37-year-old Cooktown man with one count each of unlicenced driving, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a knife, and possession of implements used in an offence.

It will be alleged the car was stolen from a home in Gordonvale in September after the keys were left in the ignition. The items seized included a knife, hand tools, one balaclava, face mask and arm sleeve.

He is due to appear in the Cooktown Magistrates Court on December 3.

Drug charges, Thursday Island: Police yesterday charged a 45-year-old Prince of Wales man with one count each of possession and supply of a dangerous drug namely cannabis.

It will be alleged the man was intercepted by police in a boat at Engineers Wharf, Victoria Parade on Thursday Island when police searched his backpack and seized a quantity of cannabis individually bagged.

He is due to appear in the Thursday Island Magistrates Court on November 24.
