Police have charged a 33-year-old Smithfield man following investigations into a series of incidents leading up to a traffic crash between his motorcycle and a taxi cab on Anderson Street at Manunda last week.

It will be alleged that the man had evaded police during an attempted traffic intercept on Pease St at around 12.45pm last Thursday.

He subsequently collided with a taxi vehicle at the intersection of Anderson and MacDonnell Streets and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A bag belonging to the man was located and seized at the scene and is alleged to have contained a quantity of methylamphetamine, scales and a sum of cash.

The man was charged on Friday with a total of 11 offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, unlicenced driving, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, using a registration plate that was issued for another vehicle, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of crime and possession of property suspected of being used in the commission of a crime.

He was also charged with an unrelated offence of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and breaching a bail condition.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this afternoon.
