Wounding and strangulation charges, Parramatta Park: A 41-year-old Parramatta Park man was charged on Saturday following an incident at a Martyn Street residential complex at around 2pm.
A group of people had been socialising at the address when a verbal altercation occurred between the man and a 42-year-old Manunda woman who was known to him.
It will be alleged that the man attempted to strangle the woman who then retreated into the rear yard of the complex.
It will be further alleged that the man then picked up two knives from the unit before following the victim into the yard and again assaulting her.
The woman sustained a stab wound to the chest and a number of lacerations to the arms and was transported to Cairns Hospital for treatment.
The man was charged with one count each of unlawful wounding and unlawful strangulation and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.
Drug and weapons charges, Westcourt: A 33-year-old man from Upper Daradgee was charged early on Friday morning after a traffic intercept in Cairns on Thursday afternoon.
Officers were conducting a patrol of Brophy Street at Westcourt just before 6pm when they intercepted a utility being driven by the man.
A search of the vehicle allegedly yielded quantities of cannabis, prescription medication, cash, drug related paraphernalia, ammunition and a number of prohibited weapons.
He was charged with three counts of possession of a dangerous drug, and single counts of unlawful possession of a restricted drug, unauthorised possession of explosives (ammunition), unlawful possession of weapons, possession of things used in the commission of a crime and possession of a drug utensil.
The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 11.
Woman charged over Townsville fraud: Detectives charged a 62-year-old Bentley Park woman on Friday afternoon following investigations into a fraud related complaint.
It will be alleged that the woman was a long-term carer for an elderly woman in Townsville and withdrew large sums of money from the victim’s bank account between March and August last year.
The woman was issued with a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 18 to face a charge of fraud.
