Yarrabah trio charged over marine thefts, Cairns: A 17-year-old Yarrabah man and two boys aged 16-years-old were charged yesterday following investigations into a number of incidents at the Marlin Marina complex on June 27.

It will be alleged that a group of youths travelled from Yarrabah by boat just after midnight and made their way to the Marlin Marina where they gained entry to a moored commercial vessel and stole quantities of liquor.

It will be further alleged that one of the younger youths then stole another power boat which was moored nearby and drove it back to Yarrabah. The vessel was later located damaged and adrift offshore from the community.

Yarrabah police, assisted by Cairns Property Crime Squad officers, located the three yesterday and they were charged with a number of offences including entering premises and stealing, unlawful use of a vessel and unlicensed driving.

The 17-year-old is scheduled to appear in the Yarrabah Magistrates Court on July 6 and the two 16-year-olds will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.

Investigations into the incidents are continuing.

Serious assault charge, Injinoo (Bamaga): Thursday Island detectives charged a 43-year-old Injinoo man yesterday, following investigations into the alleged assault of a woman near Injinoo on June 10.

It will be alleged that the man had been socialising with a group of people as part of a birthday celebration when she asked the man to give her a lift home in his vehicle.

It is further alleged that during the trip to her home address the man, who was known to the victim, made a detour onto a side track and stopped the vehicle before forcing the woman from the vehicle and pushing her to the ground where he attempted to remove her clothing.

The woman managed to free herself and fled on foot to a nearby road where she flagged down a passing vehicle and returned to her home address. The incident was subsequently reported to police.

The man was charged with assault with intent to commit rape and is due to appear in the Bamaga Magistrates Court on July 7.

Drug charges, Gordonvale: A 17-year-old Gordonvale man was charged yesterday following the search of a residence at Gordonvale.

Officers from the Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at the Riverstone Road dwelling at around 4.30pm yesterday and allegedly located and seized dried cannabis, cannabis plants and items of drug related paraphernalia.

The man was issued with a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court next month to face charges of producing a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug utensils and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
