Property charges, Cairns: Cairns Property Crime Squad yesterday charged a 30-year-old Gordonvale man with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fail to stop, unregistered motor vehicle, unlawful possession of property suspected of being acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence, possession of a knife in public, breach of bail and fail to appear.

Police intercepted the man in Fearnley Street Manunda yesterday afternoon in a vehicle with stolen registration plates and whilst in possession of a machete style knife and drug paraphernalia. It’s alleged the man failed to stop for police on August 1 whilst riding a stolen motor scooter.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

Hammer obstructs police, Cairns North: Detectives yesterday charged a 30-year-old Cairns man with one count of obstruct police and four counts of fail to appear.

It will be alleged Detectives recognised the man as having outstanding warrants at about 3pm and stopped their vehicle beside the man in Sheridan Street, Cairns North before he ran across the road and into a hotel.

It’s further alleged the man ran across Sheridan Street again before Detectives confronted the man. It’s then they allege the man threatened officers with a hammer before they disarmed and arrested him.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
