Search and rescue, Ellis Beach: A Trinity Park man aged 44 and his 36-year-old friend from Port Douglas had a lucky escape overnight following a sailing mishap.
At about 1pm the two men launched their 18 foot craft at Ellis Beach for what was intended to be a two hour sailing trip.
The pair failed to return and were reported missing after one failed to attend his workplace at 4.30pm.
A search and rescue effort was launched involving an aircraft and police vessel Perry Irwin within the 100 square nautical mile search area where conditions were described as being poor with moderate seas and showery conditions.
At around 1am this morning, a commercial vessel located the two men on their upturned vessel about five nautical miles east of Port Douglas. They were taken on board and did not require any medical attention.
The pair will remain on the vessel which is due to arrive in Cooktown this morning.
Property crime charges, Cairns Region: Smithfield detectives yesterday charged a 40-year-old Manoora man following extensive investigations into a number of property related offences allegedly committed at business premises at Cairns and the Northern Beaches over the past six weeks.
The man was charged with a total of 14 offences comprising seven counts of entering premises and committing an indictable offence, two counts of attempted to enter a premises, and one count each of possession of tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of house breaking implements and obstructing a police officer.
He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.
Man charged over threatening phone calls, Cairns: A 21-year-old Mooroobool man was charged yesterday following investigations into verbal threats allegedly made to police by telephone.
It will be alleged the man contacted police on the morning of August 5 and made threats to harm and kill an officer.
Detectives spoke with the man yesterday and he was charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 24.
