Assault and theft charges, Woree: Detectives have charged two 18-year-old men following an investigation into an incident that occurred at Woree on January 3. It will be alleged that the men, from White Rock and Ravenshoe, assaulted another 18-year-old White Rock man at an Anderson Road address following a disagreement. The two men then allegedly drove off in the victim’s utility which was later recovered. The pair was charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing. The Ravenshoe man appeared in the Atherton Magistrates Court yesterday whilst the second man is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later today. The three were known to each other.
Vehicle theft, Manoora: Police are investigating the theft of a utility from a Denman Close address yesterday. The vehicle was stolen from where it was parked outside the residence sometime between 11.30am and 3.30pm. Shortly before 2am this morning, a police patrol attempted to intercept the utility after it was observed being driven along Balaclava Road at Earlville. The driver failed to stop and turned into Bauhinia Avenue before crashing through a set of gates at a private residence where the vehicle came to rest in a gully on the property. Two males then fled through bush land and were unable to be located. The men were of indigenous appearance and investigations are continuing.
Wilful damage incident, Cairns CBD: An investigation is continuing into an incident that occurred on an inner city public bus on January 7. Two males and two females boarded the bus in Lake Street at around 10.20pm and the driver then stopped in McLeod Street and directed one of the men leave the bus due to his behaviour. As the man was leaving the bus he allegedly punched a driver safety screen, causing it to shatter. All four then left the bus and walked along McLeod Street. Police have released an image of a male who may be able to assist with the investigation. He is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance and of proportionate build. His left arm is believed to be tattooed in a half sleeve style. Quote police reference: QP1400034344.
