Escape lawful custody charge, Cairns: Detectives yesterday charged a 24-year-old Shute Harbour man with one count of escape lawful custody.

It will be alleged the man was being transported from Innisfail to Cairns Watchhouse yesterday at about 1pm, when he assaulted a police officer and a watchhouse officer and escaped on foot. A foot chase ensued with officers apprehending the man at the intersection of Spence and Lake Street.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today for this matter.

He is also due to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on December 12 to face a further 20 charges.

Further charges include seven counts of possess dangerous drugs, one count each of serious assault police, obstruct police, common assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, receiving tainted property, stealing, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, possess utensil, contravene a direction, fail to stop a motor vehicle, fail to appear and two counts of unlicensed driving.

Charges over improper use of emergency call service, Kewarra Beach: Smithfield Detectives yesterday charged a 32-year-old Edge Hill man with two counts of improper use of emergency call service.

Police allege the man called triple zero on August 12 and again on October 19 with the intention of inducing a false belief that an emergency existed, when there was not.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on December 19.

Property charge, Cairns: Police were on patrol in Brown Street, Westcourt at 12.10am yesterday when they observed two teens riding a moped which had allegedly been stolen from McLeod Street Cairns approximately two months ago.

Police allege the 16-year-old rider crashed the moped as soon as he saw police and fled on foot whilst his 12-year-old male passenger remained and spoke with police.

Police Dog Hahm and his handler tracked the teen and located him a short distance away.

The 16-year-old has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and obstruct police. Investigations are continuing.
