Youths charged over burglary and vehicle thefts, Cairns:  Two Woree boys aged 14 and 16 were charged on Wednesday afternoon following investigations into two separate burglary and vehicle theft offences at Earlville and White Rock over the last few days.

It will be alleged they entered the open carport of a Page Street residence on Tuesday night and stole a utility which had been left parked with the keys in the ignition.

It will be further alleged that the pair then entered an unlocked Hopkins Street residence at around 2am on Wednesday morning and stole a set of keys and a computer tablet.  They then stole a sedan from the residence and left the scene.

The boys were charged with a total of eight offences including burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and traffic related offences, and will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.  Both of the vehicles have been recovered.

Break and enter, Bamaga:  An investigation is underway into a break-in at New Mapoon, near Bamaga on Wednesday night.

Thieves forced entry to a general store at the community and stole a number of items as well as a sum of money from a safe.

Scenes of crime officers from Cairns flew to the location yesterday and completed scientific examinations of the scene.

Vehicle theft charge, Mossman:  A 30-year-old Mareeba man was arrested by Mossman police last night following a traffic intercept on Gorge Road at around 7.30pm.

Checks revealed the vehicle had been allegedly stolen from Cairns on January 25.

The man was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicenced driving, and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on February 11.

Burglary, North Cairns:  Police are investigating a burglary offence that occurred at a Lake Street residence last night.

The resident had left the house at around 8pm and upon returning about an hour later, observed that entry had been forced to a rear door.
