Vehicle theft and drug charges, White Rock: Two men aged 20 and 54 were charged yesterday following investigations into the theft of a motor scooter from an address at Atherton on January 18.
Officers from the Cairns Property Crime Squad executed a search warrant at an address in Sheehy Road at White Rock at around 2pm yesterday, locating and seizing the stolen scooter as well as a generator and power tools that were suspected as having been stolen.
Officers also allegedly located quantities of methylamphetamine, cannabis and other drug related paraphernalia.
The 54-year-old was charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a motor vehicle, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of tainted property.
The 20-year-old was charged with possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug utensils and possession of property suspected of having been stolen.
Both men are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on February 8.
Fraud charge, Cairns: A 35-year-old White Rock woman was charged on Friday following investigations into a fraud related complaint.
It will be alleged that the woman had purported to be the owner of a mobile phone which she pawned at a Cairns second-hand dealer in October 2016.
It will be further alleged that the phone was the subject of a two-year hire agreement which had only been entered into the previous month with a Bungalow rental business.
The woman was charged with one count of fraud and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court next month.
Assault charge, Cairns North: A 46-year-old Manoora man was charged on yesterday following an incident at a Grove Street licenced premise yesterday afternoon.
It will be alleged that the man was drinking at the premises at around 2pm when he became verbally abusive toward other patrons.
He was spoken to by venue security staff and it will be further alleged that he then punched a male staff member and verbally abused other staff who had come to his aid. The victim sustained facial cuts and bruising as a result of the incident.
The man then left the venue and police were contacted.
Officers located the man a short distance away and he was taken into custody without further incident.
He was charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and committing a public nuisance offence and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on February 8.
