Boy charged over property crime spree: A 14-year-old Bentley Park boy was arrested and charged yesterday as part of ongoing investigations into recent burglary and vehicle theft offences.

He was taken into custody at a Bentley Park address at 9am yesterday by Edmonton police and handed over to officers from the Cairns Property Crime Squad.

The boy was subsequently charged with a total of 16 offences including multiple counts of burglary, attempted burglary, entering premises and stealing, unlawful use of motor vehicles, and one count of attempted fraud.

The charges relate to offences allegedly committed at Edmonton, Bentley Park and Atherton between January 21 and yesterday. 

Disturbance, Cairns CBD: A 34-year-old Cairns man was charged yesterday morning following a disturbance in the city.

The man was initially observed with a group of associates near the intersection of Sheridan and Aplin Streets at around 8.15am where he was allegedly arguing with a woman and abusing passers-by.

Police located him in Lake Street and he was directed to move on. The man allegedly continued with his abuse and was advised he was under arrest, at which point he fled.  Officers apprehended the man on Aplin Street where he allegedly obstructed officers, resulting in a minor injury to a female officer.

He was charged with one count each of committing a public nuisance offence, obstructing police and possession of a drug utensil and is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on March 17.

The female officer sustained swelling to a finger, however was able to continue duty.
