Woman charged over property and fraud offences, Cairns: Officers from the Cairns Property Crime Squad charged a 41-year-old Whitfield woman yesterday following investigations into several incidents.
It will be alleged that the woman stole a credit card from an associate in late January and subsequently made a number of purchases with the card.
It will be further alleged that the woman forced entry to a Kanimbla residence on February 17, however fled empty-handed after being disturbed by a neighbour.
Officers attended a Hillview Crescent residence last night where the woman was located and taken into custody. She was charged with one count each of burglary, stealing, and fraud and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on April 7.
Fraud charge, Cairns CBD: A 45-year-old Sydney man was charged yesterday following an investigation into a fraud related complaint.
It will be alleged that the man had checked in to a CBD hotel over the weekend after discussions with management relating to issues with his credit card, and making an undertaking to pay his account by alternative means during business hours.
It will be further alleged that the man ran up a considerable personal debt by way of accommodation, food and liquor before being unable to settle the account as arranged on Monday.
He was arrested and charged with one count of fraud and is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on April 11.
Police Dog Xander sniffs out alleged offenders, Edge Hill: Police dog Xander earned his doggie treats after locating three males that allegedly ran from a residence in Greenslopes Street shortly before midnight on Sunday.
The home owner was sitting in his lounge room when he heard his back gate open. Upon getting up to investigate, he saw two males standing at the back door. The man shouted at the two males who then fled along with another two males that were allegedly seen running from the garage area.
The Dog Squad was quickly on the scene and it didn’t take P.D. Xander long to pick up a trail. Xander tracked three of the males all the way to bushland near Russell Street where he located one male who was taken into custody. He then led his handler further into bushland where two other males were located hiding.
A 20-year-old Edmonton man was later charged with entering a premises to commit and indicatable offence, as well as committing a Bail Act offence. He is scheduled to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court on April 5.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
