Police arrested a 23-year-old Kuranda man yesterday July 4 after receiving reports of an incident at a city nightclub.
At around 2.15am security at the venue were alerted to the man allegedly being involved in a physical altercation at the rear of the premises.
As security attempted to remove the man he allegedly smashed a bottle he was holding and slashed the arm of one of the security officers.
The man was ushered out of the area to avoid further incident and he fled prior to police arrival.
Officers provided first aid to the staff member before he was taken to the Cairns Hospital by ambulance.
Around 2.25am the man was located at Munro Martin Park and taken into custody.
He was charged with one count each of acts intended to maim / disfigure / disable, possess dangerous drugs and obstruct police.
The man was bailed and he will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on July 20.

Common assault, Smithfield
A 45-year-old Horn Island man was charged yesterday following police investigation into an alleged assault.
At around 1pm yesterday July 4 a man allegedly approached a 16-year-old girl at a Smithfield shopping centre and placed his hand on her shoulder and spoke to her before letting her go and walking off.
The girl was frightened and reported incident to security.
Police attended and viewed CCTV identifying the man leaving the centre in an Uber.
Police were informed the man was taken to the airport.
Officers attended the airport and with the assistance of Australian Federal Police (AFP) were able to locate the man prior to his departure on a plane.
He was arrested and charged with one count of common assault.
He was bailed and is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on July 20.
The girl was not physically harmed during the incident.

Multiple offences, Mount Sheridan
A man and woman were both taken into custody yesterday July 4 after police intercepted the vehicle for allegedly displaying false plates.
At around 4.45pm officers were patrolling in Mount Sheridan when they saw the vehicle and conducted checks.
The vehicle registration did not corelate with the car and was subsequently stopped.
A search of the car was conducted with officers locating several clip-seal bags containing a substance police will allege to be methylamphetamine. Two glass pipes and a pharmecutical tablet was also allegedly located.
A 32-year-old Bentley Park woman was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs and possess utensils.
A 36-year-old Gordonvale man was charged with one count each of unlicenced driving, vehicle used on a road must be registered, drive uninsured vehicle, unauthorised use of dealer plates, possess dangerous drugs, possess utensil and offence to buy or possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons.
Both were issued with a notice to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on July 31.
