Arson and drug charges, Cairns North

Police have charged a 21-year-old Cairns North woman following investigations into a fire in a Cairns North unit complex yesterday, September 4.

It will be alleged around 1.40pm, the woman set fire to a mattress inside a unit within the complex.

Emergency crews extinguished the fire, and no one was physically injured.

 A crime scene was declared, and the 21-year-old woman was arrested in relation to the incident.

Police conducted a pat-down search where it will be further alleged, officers located a quantity of drugs.

The 21-year-old been charged with one count each of arson and possess dangerous drugs.

She is due to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court today, September 5.

Property charges, Cairns

Police have charged five teenagers with a total of 28 offences following investigations into multiple alleged break-ins across Cairns recently.

Officers from Far North Tactical Crime squad together with Cairns Property Crime Unit apprehended and charged the five teenagers in the early hours of yesterday morning, September 4.

Police will further allege that three stolen vehicles were also located at the property.

A 14-year-old Yarrabah boy has been charged with nine offences including three counts of attempted enter dwelling with intent at night, two counts of enter dwelling and commit, and one count each of enter premises and commit indicatable offence by break, attempted enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, attempted enter dwelling with intent and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in the night in company.

He is due to appear at Cairns Childrens Court at a later date.  

A 13-year-old Yarrabah girl was charged with three counts of attempted enter dwelling with intent at night, two counts enter dwelling and commit and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

She is due to appear at Cairns Childrens Court at a later date.

A 13-year-old Westcourt boy has been charged with eight offences including two counts of enter dwelling & commit, three counts of enter dwelling with intent at night, and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unregulated high-risk activity and driving motor vehicle without a drivers licence (never held licence).

He is being dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

A 16-year-old Yarrabah boy has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle, and one count each of enter dwelling and commit and obstruct police.

And a 16-year-old Bentley Park boy was charged with one count of burglary. He is due to appear at Cairns Childrens Court at a later date.

 Drink driving charge, Cairns City

Police have charged a 26-year-old Smithfield man following an alleged drink driving incident in Cairns City at 11.55pm yesterday, September 4.

It will be alleged 26-year-old was intercepted by police along Grafton Street due to his manner of driving.

A roadside breath test was conducted with the driver allegedly returning a positive result.

The man was detained by police and transported to the Cairns Police Station for a breath test where he allegedly returned a positive reading of 0.168.

The man’s licence was immediately suspended, and he was charged with one count of driving whilst under influence of liquor (UIL).

He is due to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court on September 20.
