Assault occasioning, Babinda.
A 29-year-old Gordonvale man was arrested yesterday, January 9, following an incident in Babinda on January 1.
It is alleged a woman was driving between Cairns and Babinda in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
It is further alleged that when she arrived in Babinda the man rammed her vehicle, forcing her from the road.
The woman was able to drive to the Babinda hospital where the man allegedly dragged her from her vehicle and assaulted her before fleeing the area.
Police also allege the man was involved in several other offences in the Cairns area over the preceding weeks.
The man was arrested on Abbott Street yesterday and charged with three counts of stealing, two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, contravention of a domestic violence order, breach of bail conditions and driving unlicensed.
The man was refused bail and will appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today, January 10.

Break and enter, Edmonton
A 15-year-old Mooroobool boy was arrested on Walker Road, Edmonton following an incident at a nearby address early yesterday, January 9.
It is alleged the boy was part of a group who attempted to force entry to a Claderia Street home around 1am.
Police were able to identify and locate the boy a short time after the incident, following assistance from the public.
It is further alleged the boy was involved in several other incidents in the Edmonton and Cairns areas dating back to March 2023.
The boy was charged with three counts of enter dwelling, three counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count each of stealing and attempted enter dwelling.
He was denied bail and will appear before Cairns Childrens Court at a later date.
