Assault incident, Cairns CBD: A 27-year-old Cairns man was arrested and charged yesterday evening following the alleged assault of a 52-year-old man in Shields Street at around 6:30pm.
It will be alleged that the victim was attempting to retrieve a shopping trolley as part of his employment duties when the alleged offender became violent, punching and kneeing him to the head and stomach and knocking him to the ground. The victim was transported to the CairnsHospital for treatment of a facial laceration.
Police located the alleged offender near the intersection of Lake and Minnie Streets and he was taken into custody.
He was charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and obstructing police. He was also charged with an unrelated count of grievous bodily harm as a result of an alleged incident in the Brisbane CBD on December 5 last year.
Redlynch residents warned to secure their vehicles: Police are reminding car owners to adopt the ‘Lock it or lose it’ mantra following a spate of thefts from vehicles at Redlynch on Monday night.
Thieves gained entry to a total of nine vehicles with only one of those believed to have been locked at the time. Cash, sunglasses and other personal items were stolen from the vehicles.
Detectives yesterday recovered a mountain bike that was allegedly stolen from one of the Redlynch addresses and investigations are continuing in relation to it.
