Wilful damage and assault charges, Edmonton: A 20-year-old Manunda woman and a 14-year-old girl have been arrested following the alleged assault of a 50-year-old man and damage to four shops at a Progress Road shopping village around 5:30pm yesterday.
Police will allege that the pair was in the company of another girl when they allegedly used rocks to cause varying degrees of damage to four separate shops.
The 50-year-old man, an employee at one of the shops, was allegedly struck in the side of the face with a rock after he went to the aid of a staff member at a neighbouring business. The man sustained a laceration and bruising to the side of his face.
Police patrols picked up the trio not far from the offence location. The 20-year-old woman was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed, two counts of common assault and four counts of wilful damage. She is scheduled to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
The 14-year-old girl was charged with four counts of wilful damage and assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed. She will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Another girl is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
Stealing, Earlville: A 12-year-old girl has been arrested over the alleged theft of a handbag from an Earlville shopping centre around 3:30pm yesterday.
The 68-year-old victim was seated in the food court area when the girl allegedly ran past and stole her handbag. Police will allege that the girl was in the company of another girl at the time, the pair fled the shopping centre and allegedly removed cash and keys from the handbag before throwing it on the roof of a building.
A member of the public recovered the handbag and handed it over to police.
Police patrols located the girl a short time later. She was charged with one count of stealing and will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
A 13-year-old girl is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
