My Adopted school, St Joseph’s, is only relatively small in comparison to some of our larger schools in the Cairns area but we certainly have a wealth of talented students to be proud of.
Just this week I was at assembly and our Principal Mr Gavin Rick announced that a group of year 5 students from our school had entered a G20 artwork competition.
Federal Member for Leichhardt Mr Warren Entsch MP wrote to our school to acknowledge the many entries received from across the far north, and to congratulate one of our students.
An excerpt from Mr Entsch’s letter read:
“We received a large number of high-quality entries, illustrating some of Cairns’ and Far North Queensland’s unique attractions. All of the artworks submitted by children from across the region are being used to produce a huge mural which will feature at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting at the Cairns Convention Centre from 18-21 September. Selected artworks will also be included in the delegates’ accreditation passes.
I am very pleased to let you know that Gurnazpreet’s entry has been selected as a winner. To acknowledge their achievement, your school will receive an iPad and a $100 iTunes gift card, which I hope will be a valuable educational resource to your school.”
Mrs Doolan took Naz to check out her artwork in pride of place during G20 meetings.
Naz said, “I’m very proud and quite chuffed by the whole experience.”
Congratulations Naz and all the other students for representing Cairns so very well.
