Fourteen people are now expected to front the Cairns Magistrates Court later this month after they were charged with drink driving offences over the weekend.
As warned, local police were out in force targeting motorists in and around Cairns and the outer suburbs.
Cairns Cup organisers have again managed a very well run event. Police at the grounds reported that patrons were well behaved with no arrests made at the grounds or linked to the event.
Police conducting mobile and static breath testing sites in the CBD and outer suburbs saw two drink drivers charged on Saturday August 10 and a further 12 drivers charged with drink driving offences on August 11.
Police intercepted a vehicle on Callaghan Street Mooroobool at about 11.30am on Saturday August 10, where it is alleged a 28-year-old Thursday Island man recorded a reading of .203% which was the the highest reading of the weekend.
Other high readings recorded over the weekend included .109%, .132% and .133%.
