The Share the Road safety program steps up another gear with the launch of the Share the Road cycle safety sticker which is supported by the Queensland Police Service, The Cairns Post and Cairns Regional Council.
The aim for the launch of the new sticker campaign is to encourage greater understanding between cyclists and motorists. Cairns has a high proportion of cyclists owing to its climate and relatively flat terrain but specific cycling infrastructure is not as good as that in capital cities and the area has the highest rate of cycling fatalities in the state (13 since 2007).
The Cairns Post is sending out this week over 18,000 bumper stickers to Newsagents to be given out for free to their valued customers.
As part of the campaign, we are all requesting that the sticker be displayed on your car so that the message has the best chance to change the culture on our roads.
Share the Road bumper stickers will be supported in The Cairns Post and will be available at various locations around Cairns including, council libraries and Cairns Regional Council.
