Robbery incident, Cairns: An investigation is underway in relation to the alleged robbery of a taxi driver at Manunda early this morning. Three males entered the cab in the CBD at around 3.30am and directed the driver to a Manunda address. A verbal disagreement occurred whilst enroute and the driver stopped the cab near the intersection of Martyn and Charles Streets. The men allegedly grappled with the driver and attempted to steal his money. Two of the men fled on foot after stealing the driver’s mobile phone. Police located a 25-year-old Manunda man at the scene and he is presently assisting with inquiries.
Five charged over property offences, Edmonton: Two men aged 20 and 35, and three boys aged 14, 15 and 16 were charged in relation to a number of south side property offences yesterday. The arrests follow a review being conducted by Edmonton detectives in relation to a number of property offences committed within the division over recent months. The five were charged with a total of six offences including burglary, entering premises and stealing, and possession of tainted property. The adult males are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 6, whilst the youths will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.
Man charged over Palm Cove assault: Smithfield police charged a 37-year-old Palm Cove man last night following investigations into the alleged assault of another 36-year-old Palm Cove man. The incident allegedly occurred at an Oliva Street residence on July 27. The man was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 4. The victim sustained multiple bruises and abrasions as a result of the alleged incident.
