Property theft – Beware of the Grinch this Xmas!

Don’t let the Grinch steal your X-Mas or your valuables!

Avoid becoming a property crime statistic over the Christmas period and secure your home, car, car keys, valuables, mobile phones and tablets.

In the past 24 hours, local police received reports of a number of thefts from cars and homes in Earlville, Edge Hill, Kanimbla, Parramatta Park and Yarrabah.

Earlville saw five vehicles target overnight. The vehicles were parked in Mansfield Street, Balaclava Road, Mango Drive and Stillman Street, Earlville.

Four of those vehicles were left unlocked and had valuables such as money, wallets and handbags taken from them.

In other offences in Edge Hill, Kanimbla, Parramatta Park and Yarrabah, offenders have entered homes via unlocked doors when residents were home and stolen valuables.

In Kanimbla owners were inside the home attending to chores and left the garage door open for 15 minutes.

In that time short period of time, a black Redline Proline Pro BMX bike was stolen from the garage.

At Yarrabah a laptop and tobacco were stolen from a coffee table whilst the resident slept at home with the doors closed but not locked.

At Edge Hill offenders entered the home via an unlocked back door, rummaged through a vehicle and home whilst the residents slept.

A quantity of cash was stolen along with an expensive black and white Giant Glory mountain bike.

Also in Edge Hill, entry was gained to an insecure home whilst the residents were asleep and property stolen.

They woke at about 2am today and noticed property from inside the house, at the front gate.

In Parramatta Park a red mountain bike was stolen after an offender has entered an enclosed yard and taken it from the property.

Police continue to urge residents to improve home and vehicle security to avoid becoming a target for opportunistic thieves.

Complacency often causes unnecessary angst for residents.

Knowing someone has been in your home whilst you and your family sleep can be quite disturbing.
