Alloy charge numbers continue to head North, Cairns region: Charges continue to mount as investigators working on Operation North Alloy piece together property and vehicle offences that have occurred between Cairns and Townsville over the past month.
Cairns Property Crime Squad Officer in Charge, Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Smith has been heading up North Alloy, which was a collaboration of resources from the Far Northern Police District aimed at targeting those responsible for a string of recent property and vehicle thefts.
“Whilst police have been extremely successful in tracking, locating and arresting the main offenders, investigations will now continue with regard to accomplices and associates, and their links to over 100 offences that have occurred in the district over the past month,” he said.
Operation North Alloy has so far netted 28 offenders on over 250 charges. Of the 250 charges laid, one 14-year-old boy is facing 72 charges while another 17-year-old man will face 68 charges.
Stolen property scam ‘disc-covered’ by the Beat, Cairns: A 47-year-old Cairns North man is headed for the Courts later this month, following an investigation by an Earlville Police Beat officer into an alleged stealing and fraud scam.
It will be alleged that the man was had been arrested and interviewed by the officer on February 18 after he had allegedly stolen 84 digital video discs from an Earlville department store.
Further investigations were conducted and a search warrant was subsequently executed at the man’s Cairns Street residence, where a number of allegedly stolen DVD’s and other items of interest were located.
Additional inquiries allegedly uncovered the fraudulent disposal of the stolen discs through a third party business.
The man was issued with a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on March 24 to face two counts of stealing and twelve counts of fraud.
Police recovered a total of 302 allegedly stolen DVD’s as part of the investigation.
Investigations continue into business break-ins, Cairns: Police are investigating a concerning spike in break and entry offences committed at small business premises across the Cairns area over recent days.
On Wednesday night at Manunda, thieves forced entry to two Anderson Street retail furniture businesses and stole a small sum of money from one premise. Offenders also targeted a Whitfield business office where entry was gained but no property stolen, as well as a Cairns North vehicle rental business where they unsuccessfully attempted to gain entry to a safe.
These latest incidents come on the back of seven similar offences committed overnight on Tuesday.
Business operators are being urged to avoid leaving cash on their premises overnight, and to consider installing alarm systems and CCTV camera equipment capable of recording quality images.
