For the most part our far northern communities throughout Cape York Peninsula managed to escape TC Nathan unscathed or with minimal damage.
Many of those creeks and rivers throughout the Cape still remain flooded, however most have now subsided.
Some areas of course are still seeing localised flooding with some damage to roads as well.
One vehicle came unstuck late last week when the driver tried to cross the swollen Archer River in 4WD just north of Coen.
This is just another timely reminder for all motorists to take extreme care around flood waters and remember, “If it’s flooded, forget it!”
Vehicles found driving beyond road closure signs can receive on-the-spot fines of $660 under provisions of the Transport Infrastructure Act.
All motorists planning on travelling throughout Cape York Peninsula up to and including the Easter school holiday period, are urged to check road conditions prior to travel and not be tempted to cross swollen creeks or rivers.
Some of the Cape roads may not be in good condition due to flooding or damage. Motorists are urged to take extreme caution whilst travelling in these areas.
