Police Liaison Officers from the Cross Cultural Liaison Unit were recently invited on-board the Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Medical Ship prior to its maiden voyage to Papua New Guinea.

Through their partnership with TAFE North and the Papua New Guinea Technical and Vocation Education and Skills Scholarship Program (TVETSSP) the liaison officers boarded the 60 metre long catamaran for a tour with the students.

The $6.5 million dollar ship has recently undergone a re-fit in Cairns installing the necessary equipment to provide medical services and training throughout remote communities in PNG.

The floating hospital is entirely staffed by volunteers dedicated to providing dental, optical and primary health care services. Members of the Cairns community and local businesses provided much needed donations of toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and spectacles to the ship prior to its departure from Cairns on Friday.

The former cruise ship now converted to a medical ship providing much needed services to PNG.
