Rape charge, Westcourt:  Detectives have charged a 28-year-old Cairns man following the alleged sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman on early on Saturday morning.

Police will allege the man, 19-year-old woman and another 20-year-old woman had been socialising in the CBD on Friday night before attending the man’s Westcourt unit in the early hours of Saturday morning.  It will be further alleged the man subsequently sexually assaulted the woman at that location.

He has been charged with one count of rape and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 1.  The victim was not physically injured during the alleged incident.    

Attempted armed robbery charges, Cairns City:  Police yesterday charged two girls aged 13 and 16 as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged assault and attempted robbery of a 21-year-old woman on Aplin Street on May 7.

It will be alleged the victim was walking home from the CBD area shortly before 10pm when she was approached by a group of teenaged girls who assaulted her and attempted to steal her property.

The two girls, from Manunda and Manoora, were each charged with one count of attempted robbery with violence and will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.   

Fraud charge, Cairns:  A 46-year-old Bungalow man was charged on Friday afternoon following investigations into the alleged misuse of funds belonging to his employer.

It will be alleged the man used a corporate credit card belonging to his employer to make a number of personal purchases over a period between May 2011 and January this year.

He was charged with one count of dishonest application of property by an employee and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 5.
