Four charged over tavern break-in, Manoora:  Police charged four people yesterday, following investigations into the alleged break and entry of a Pease Street tavern in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police were called to the complex at around 3.30am and located a one male inside the premise, and two females at the rear of the building.  Another male was located hiding in nearby bushes.

The group, a girl aged 12, a boy aged 16, as well as a woman and a man aged 17 and 20 respectively, were charged with  a total of nine offences including breaking and entering premises and stealing, wilful damage and one unrelated charge of unlawfully using a motor vehicle.  A quantity of bottled spirits was allegedly stolen during the incident.

The man has been remanded for mention in the Cairns Magistrates Court today whilst the woman is scheduled to appear in the same Court on June 2.  Both youths will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.

Man twice charged over drink driving incidents, Cairns:  A 22-year-old Cairns North man is headed for the Courts next month following not one, but two drink driving incidents in the CBD overnight.

Police intercepted his vehicle on Lake Street at around 11.20pm last night and the man allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of .177%.  He was arrested and charged with one count of driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of liquor and his driver licence was immediately suspended.  The man was then processed before being released from custody.

It will be alleged that upon leaving the police station shortly before 2am, the man returned to his vehicle and drove it to his home address at Cairns North.  Police attended and spoke with the man and he was required to undergo a breath test which allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of .146%.

He was charged with one count each of mid-range drink driving and driving a motor vehicle whilst his driver licence was suspended.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 3 to have the three charges dealt with.

Drug charges, Caravonica:  Detectives yesterday charged a 41-year-old Caravonica man following an investigation into items seized from his home last year.

Police attended the address in July 2014 in relation to another matter, and located equipment suspected of having been used in the manufacture of illicit drugs.  The items were seized and subsequently underwent scientific examination as part of the investigation.

The man was charged with a total of four drug offences comprising production of a dangerous drug, possession of instructions for producing a dangerous drug, possession of a thing used in the commission of a crime and possession of relevant substances or things.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 6.
