Fraud charges, Dimbulah: Edmonton detectives yesterday charged a 27-year-old Gordonvale male following investigations into the alleged use of fraudulent cheques. Police will allege that the man made a false complaint regarding the theft of his cheque book from his vehicle in May this year. The man then allegedly asked a friend to cash a number of cheques in the Dimbulah area on May 30 in an attempt to gain funds from a closed account. The man was charged with 2 counts of fraud and is scheduled to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 24.
Public assistance sought, Port Douglas: Port Douglas police are currently investigating a number of recent offences in the Port Douglas area.
In the early hours of Monday morning unknown offenders forced entry to a Macrossan Street Café before causing a large amount of damage inside. It is believed that the offenders fled with an amount of alcohol.
Police are further investigating an incident early on Monday morning where unknown offenders set fire to two bins at Port Douglas Park and then attempted to gain entry to a number of vehicles at the park. The offenders were disturbed attempting to gain entry to a campervan and fled the scene. The offenders were described as two Caucasian males both with a foreign accent.
On Sunday night entry was obtained to a vehicle parked on Macrossan St, unknown offenders then used spray paint to cause graffiti damage to that vehicle along with nearby property and three other vehicles.
Port Douglas police are investigating if the incidents are related and are urging residents to be vigilant with home and vehicle security and to report suspicious behaviour.
