Several weeks ago police received a special request to help fulfil the dream of local young man Adrian Forbes. When asked by his case worker what his dream job would be, the answer for Adrian was easy, “I would love to work with the police dog squad”.
The special request was passed on to Dog Squad Officer in Charge, Sergeant Dave Raymond who was able to obtain the necessary clearances to recruit Adrian as a member of the dog squad for a few hours.
Retired police dog Zed, known for his more friendly nature, was called in for the shift so Adrian could run him through his paces. Adrian could barely contain his excitement as he held the end of the lead and did some tracking and searching exercises with Zed.
Adrian was a keen observer as he watched the rest of the dog squad officers and their dogs run through a series of training drills which included bite work and building searches.
“He was so excited, I’m not sure how I will get that dog squad shirt off him,” said mother Sue Forbes.
“This is the first time we have done this type of thing but it was great that we could help make Adrian’s dream a reality” Sergeant Raymond said.
