Youth charged over Bungalow sexual assault: Police arrested and charged a 15-year-old Woree boy yesterday afternoon following investigations into the alleged sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman outside a Mulgrave Road business premises in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Officers were conducting inquiries in the Woree area around 3.30pm yesterday when they spotted the teenager. He fled but was subsequently arrested after a search of a nearby residence.
He was charged with one count each of rape, deprivation of liberty and sexual assault, and was further charged with a number of unrelated matters including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of burglary.
He will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992. QP15015858182 and others.
Air crash, Whyanbeel Valley (via Mossman): Police and emergency services were called to the scene of a helicopter crash yesterday afternoon.
A Cairns based helicopter was undertaking charter work in the Whyanbeel Valley area north of Mossman when crashed into a creek bed at around 4.30pm.
Three male passengers managed to escape relatively unscathed and were able to walk to seek assistance. The pilot sustained injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Cairns Hospital for treatment.
Mossman police guarded the crash scene overnight and will remain until the arrival of Air Safety investigators later today.
