Dangerous operation of vehicle charges, Mooroobool: A 28-year-old Woree woman was charged yesterday afternoon following investigations into a vehicle related incident last Thursday.

It will be alleged that the woman parked in her vehicle near the corner of Callaghan and Koch Streets at around 10pm on Thursday night and was arguing with a 38-year-old man who was known to her.

It will be further alleged that she drove off in her vehicle before executing a u-turn and driving back toward the man and colliding with him, knocking him to the roadway.

The woman then allegedly turned the vehicle around and drove towards the man a second time, narrowly missing him and a number of witnesses who had come to his assistance.

The man sustained grazing and bruising as a result of the incident and was transported to Cairns Hospital for treatment.

Police intercepted a vehicle in Bunda Street at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon and spoke with the woman who was a passenger.

She was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and two counts of contravening an order and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.  

Girl charged over property offences, Cairns area: Cairns Property Crime Unit officers charged a 14-year-old Woree girl on Saturday evening following investigations into a number of property related offences.

She was charged with a total of eight offences comprising two counts each of burglary, unlawful use of motor vehicle and receiving tainted property, as well as single counts of stealing and possession of tainted property.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at Manunda, Westcourt, Earlville and Woree between April 24 and Saturday.

The girl will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.  

Travellers caught out with wet weather, Hopevale area:  A couple from Kewarra Beach narrowly avoided disaster yesterday afternoon after their vehicle was washed off a crossing.

The pair were attempting to cross the flooded Starcke River north of Hopevale at around 2.45pm when the fast flowing water pushed their vehicle and boat off the crossing.  They managed to swim to safety and alerted family members to their predicament via a text message.

A rescue effort was launched however the couple were unable to be located by the rescue aircraft due to the weather conditions. Arrangements were made for the Queensland Government rescue helicopter to return to the area at first light to retrieve the couple.

Police are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution in the present wet weather conditions and remember, if it’s flooded – forget it!
