Far Northern Assistant Commissioner Paul Taylor welcomes 16 new officers to the region.

It’s always easy to give a warm welcome in the Far North (us far northerners think its freezing here when we have to turn the fans off!) with Northern Region Assistant Commissioner Paul Taylor recently welcoming 16 new First Year Constables to the district.

Graduating from the Townsville Police academy, the officers will face a steep learning curve as they hit the road this week in the Mareeba, Cairns, Mossman, Atherton, Kuranda, Smithfield and Edmonton policing divisions.

With an average age of 27-years-old the new officers bring with them a wealth of experience from a variety of past employment and study backgrounds. These include a personal trainer, a fridge mechanic, child care worker, retail assistant, plumber, hospitality and a logistics officer.

Of the 16 constables, four are returning to Cairns after having grown up in the area.

The First Year Constables will now work alongside Field Training Officers for the next twelve months as they put into practice the skills and knowledge that they have acquired during the 25 week intensive recruit training program.
