Far North detectives charged 25 people with a total of 117 offences following the closure of a major drug operation at Innisfail on Wednesday. The operation, codenamed Lima Limber, had been running since early last year and focused on drug manufacture and supply operations originating in the Cassowary Coast area.
Four of those charged were a 54-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman both of Innisfail, as well as a 24 year-old man and a 19-year-old woman from Etty Bay. They were each charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday morning. The remaining 21 persons charged are scheduled to appear in the Innisfail and Cairns Magistrates Courts later this month.
The operation was a combined initiative of the Far North District Drug Squad and Innisfail Criminal Investigation Branch and saw teams of detectives execute search warrants at ten locations in the Innisfail area. Officers allegedly seized a quantity of methyl amphetamine, MDMA and chemicals allegedly used in the manufacture of dangerous drugs. Three motor vehicles, two motorcycles, cash, firearms and prohibited articles were also seized during the searches.
Far North District Drug Squad Officer in Charge, Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Goan was well pleased with the results of the operation.
“Lima Limber has been a protracted investigation and the results in terms of the impact on drug manufacture and supply chains for the Cassowary Coast region have been significant”
“As is often the case with these sorts of operations, we have also seen the seizure of illicit firearms, including a pistol and other prohibited weapons, so it’s a very encouraging result overall,” he said.
