Queensland Road Safety Week is scheduled to kick off next week from August 22 until August 28. It is the perfect opportunity for all Queenslanders to be directly involved in making our roads safer for everyone.
With 22 deaths on our far northern roads in just 34 weeks this year we need your help!
You are invited to attend the Cairns Road Safety Expo (joint Emergency Services)
- When: Gates open at 11am and close at 1.30pm on Thursday August 25
- Where: Fred Moule Pavilion, Cairns Showgrounds (Mulgrave Road Entrance)
At the Expo there will be:
- A demonstration at midday where you can see Queensland Fire Emergency Services (QFES) Road Crash Rescue Team display their skills to extricate ‘trapped’ crash victims from a wreck.
- Displays by Police, Queensland Ambulance Service, QFES, Department of Transport and Main Roads and Department of Youth Justice.

‘Speaking up for road safety’ is the focus of the Queensland-wide Road Safety Week and we’re encouraging the whole community to join the conversation about road safety.
Communities, schools and workplaces are encouraged to support the week through hosting local events or sharing road safety information among staff, students, colleagues, family and friends.
We are asking you to consider how you can support Road Safety Week, and encourage participation in your own local communities.
There are dedicated resources to encourage schools and workplaces to get involved with competitions and attend events in your community.
There is also a school based art work competition to encourage students to show what road safety looks like in their town which provides an opportunity for students to win an iPad Mini for themselves and their school.
You can find a range of additional resources on the Join the Drive website, including fact sheets, posters, screen savers, email signature footers and pledge posters to help promote road safety in your workplace.
