Weipa man charged over break-ins: Detectives charged a 20-year-old Nanum man yesterday following investigations into a number of break and enter offences at Rocky Point. It will be alleged that the man forced entry to two business premises and stole property on a total of four occasions between December 19 and January 12. Vehicle service equipment, cash, tools, a camera and other items were allegedly stolen during the incidents. The man was charged with four counts of breaking and entering premises and stealing and is scheduled to appear in the Weipa Magistrates Court on January 21.

Property and traffic charges, Manunda: Police charged a 21-year-old Mooroobool man this morning after he was intercepted in an allegedly stolen vehicle. A police crew stopped the vehicle in a shopping centre car park shortly after 4am and initial inquiries indicated the man was unlicenced. He then returned a breath alcohol reading of .085% and was taken into custody. Further inquiries revealed the vehicle had been stolen during an overnight burglary offence at Redlynch. The man was charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, low range drink driving and unlicenced driving and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on January 30.

Fraud charge, Cairns: A 41-year-old Kanimbla woman was charged yesterday following investigations into the alleged misappropriation of a sum of money belonging to a local sporting association. It will be alleged that the woman was entrusted with the monetary proceeds of a December sporting carnival and subsequently appropriated the funds to her own use. She was charged with one count of dishonestly application of property and is due to appear in the CairnsMagistrates Court on January 29.

Wilful damage charge, Manunda: A 19-year-old Manoora man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on January 30 following an incident at a Pease Street fuel station early this morning. It will be alleged that the man attended the premises at about 1.30am in an agitated state. He allegedly threw his mobile phone on the ground before kicking at the door of the business and smashing a glass door panel. The man then left on foot and a police patrol located him at a nearby unit complex shortly afterward. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with one count of wilful damage.
