Too cute not to share! These girls couldn’t move any faster when I asked for volunteers for a photo.
There were plenty of smiles and questions as ‘special constables’ for the day descended on the Cairns City Esplanade Police Beat for an inspection.
Close to 100 students from Woree Primary school had a close-up look at just what it is like to be a police officer at one of the most picturesque police beats in the far north.
It was a day of community services visits with the ‘special constables’ also attending the Earlville Mail Delivery Centre and the Cairns Regional Council Library.
City Beat police officers took time out to show the kids around the station and the police cars before having a talk about personal safety. The timing of the safety talk was perfect as the students will undertake safety awareness programs as part of the Daniel Morcombe curriculum when they return to school in 2017.
Officer in Charge of the Esplanade Police Beat Senior Sergeant Gary Hunter said it was great to have the ‘special constables’ as part of his crew.
“The kids were very excited to come and visit us, they loved looking around the station and through the police car, but without a doubt the thing they found most fascinating was the live CCTV feed we have around the Esplanade,” Senior Sergeant Hunter said.
