Police are seeking public assistance to help locate two bikes stolen from the Reef Fleet terminal on January 1.

The bikes were chained to the Wharf Street bicycle racks at around 9am, the owners returned at around 6.30pm to find that the bikes had been stolen.

Stolen: Wharf Street Cairns City QP1700005930.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers and quote property reference number QP1700005930.

With close to 40 bicycles reported stolen in the Cairns area between December and January, police urge all bicycle owners to ensure that their bikes are appropriately secured both at home and in public areas.

Bicycle owners are also encouraged to fill out the Bicycle ID card. The ID contains information required by police in the event that your bicycle is lost or stolen and assists police with returning located bicycles to their rightful owners.

On a regular basis unclaimed bicycles are sent to auction. Regardless of the value of the bicycle, thefts should be reported to Policelink by contacting 131 444.
