Share the Road is a road safety campaign that was originally implemented in Cairns in 2010 and is now supported by Cairns Police, Cairns Regional Council, The Cairns Post and Bicycle Safety Groups.

All road users are encouraged to make themselves familiar with the road rules that apply to them whilst travelling by motor vehicle and on bicycle.

As such the Cairns Tactical Crime Squad kindly donated five ex-police bikes to the Bike Education Program at the Woree Primary School to help them learn about bicycle maintenance, repairs, bicycle and road safety.

Senior Sergeant Jason Chetham said, ‘The school have an impressive facility that includes streets with bitumen roads, street signs, traffic lights and a wide variety of other obstacles that would normally be found on any one of our suburban streets.’

‘The school were very appreciative of the mountain bike additions to their program which would certainly help reduce the financial burden from the school’,  he said.

Local police are supportive of bike safety education programs in our schools and applaud schools such as Woree Primary School and Trinity Beach Primary School who are both strong advocates for bicycle safety in our community.

All road users are encouraged to ride and drive responsibly and share the road!
