Stolen vehicle and dangerous driving charges, Greater Cairns | Officers from the Cairns Property Crime Office yesterday charged one boy and one man with a total of 13 property offences.

Police allege a 14-year-old Manoora boy, and a 19-year-old Manunda man broke into a Boden Street Edge Hill home in the early hours of yesterday morning (October 18), before stealing a laptop, handbag, wallet, phone, car keys and a white Suzuki Jimny.

It’s further alleged the boy was driving the Suzuki Jimny dangerously before officers from the Cairns Tactical Crime Squad deployed tyre deflation devices in Manunda at about 5pm yesterday (October 18).

It is further alleged the boy drove the vehicle on the wrong side of Anderson Street, causing traffic to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

It is alleged the boy continued driving until he dumped the vehicle in Boden Street.

He and his 19-year-old passenger were arrested after a police foot chase involving Police Dog Bally and his handler and Tactical Crime Squad Officers.

Police further allege the 19-year-old man also stole property from an Earlville home on October 10 after gaining entry via an open rear door.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with six offences, including one count each of enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, dangerous operation of a vehicle and obstruct police.

The 19-year-old man was charged with seven offences including one count each of enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, stealing, attempted enter dwelling with intent in company and obstruct police, and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. Police refused bail for both teens. The boy is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court today, whilst the man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates today also.
