Cairns Weekend Wrap, Monday October 23

Property crime charges, Cairns | Cairns Property Crime Squad officers charged nine people, including six boys, two men and one woman, with a total of 62 property related offences over the weekend.

A 15-year-old Gordonvale boy was arrested on Friday and charged with 11 offences including four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of receiving tainted property and one count each of enter premises and commit, enter dwelling and commit, enter dwelling with intent, stealing and possess drug utensil. It will be alleged he unlawfully used four motor vehicles, two in Port Douglas, and one each in Edmonton and Cairns North and stole property from homes over the past three months. 

A 14-year-old Woree boy was charged with twelve (12) offences including six counts of breach of bail, and one count each of stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possess house breaking implement, possess knife in public, fail to dispose of syringe and possess explosive, namely a rifle cartridge.

It will be alleged he stole a Toyota Landcruiser from the Tablelands sometime between 8th and 11th October before stealing fuel from a service station. Its further alleged when located by police on Friday, he was in possession of a used syringe, a rifle cartridge, and a knife.

He appeared in the Cairns Childrens Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody to reappear on November 3.

A 14-year-old Manoora boy was charged with one count each of break and enter and attempted enter with intent to steal and two counts of breach of bail yesterday.

It will be alleged on October 17 he entered a Bentley Park business before stealing a mobile phone.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court on October 27.

A 14-year-old Whitfield boy was charged with one count each of stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling and commit, wilful damage and enter welling with intent by break.

It will be alleged he committed offences in Earlville and Mooroobool, stealing a vehicle and other property.

Police refused bail and he is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court today.

A 14-year-old Mooroobool boy was charged with one count of enter premises and stealing on Saturday.

Police allege he gained access to a Earlville address before stealing property.

Police recovered the property, and the boy is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court on October 25. 

A 45-year-old Cairns North man was charged with three counts of enter premises and commit an indictable offence.

Police allege the man entered businesses before stealing multiple property items in October. He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 15.

A 43-year-old East Feluga man was charged with eight counts of stealing and one count each of fraud, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicenced driving, possess property suspect stolen and possess utensil.

Police allege the man was in possession of goods allegedly stolen from businesses in Smithfield, Cairns, Innisfail, Bentley Park, Atherton, Gordonvale, and Bowen. Police further allege the man broke into Cairns business and was located in possession of drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest.

It’s further alleged he unlawfully used a rental car. He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 30.

A 48-year-old East Feluga woman was charged with eight counts of stealing, one count each of fraud and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts each of unlicensed driving and possess suspected stolen property.

She is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 30.

Assault charges, Cairns City | Cairns Police have charged a 13-year-old Manoora boy after multiple complaints in the City on Friday (October 20) night.

Police will allege the boy approached two women on Abbotts Street around 8pm before he produced a knife and threatened them, before the women fled.

It will also be alleged that the boy assaulted another woman on Abbotts Street around 8:30pm, and attempted to steal her pushbike, before another person intervened and the boy fled.

Cairns officers were contacted a short time later, and with the assistance of City Safe Camera Operators, they located and arrested the boy.

The boy was charged with seven offences including one count each of stealing, possess a knife in public, assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts each of common assault and wilful damage.

He was conveyed to the watchhouse and appeared in the Cairns Childrens Court on Saturday. He is scheduled to reappear before the Childrens Court on October 26.

Fraud, Greater Cairns | Smithfield Criminal Investigation Branch detectives charged a 34-year-old Redlynch woman with 18 fraud-based offences.

She was arrested on Thursday and charged with two counts of obtaining or dealing with identification information. After further investigations, detectives charged her on Friday (October 20) with 16 counts of fraud.

It will be alleged that the woman used false identification to obtain several items from businesses in Cairns, North Ward and Ingham, dating back to September 2022.

She is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 3.

Further stalking charge, Cairns North: Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch detectives have charged a 14-year-old Cairns boy following investigations into an incident on October 12. 

It will be alleged the boy followed and inappropriately touched a woman in Cairns North before fleeing the area.

He was charged with one count each of sexual assault and unlawful stalking, intimidation, harassing or abuse.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court on November 2.
