Drug charges, Yorkeys Knob | Officers from the Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit yesterday executed a search warrant at a home in Yorkeys Knob and seized a quantity of methylamphetamine, clip seal bags and other drug paraphernalia, a mature cannabis plant, computer and two mobile phones.

A 52-year-old woman was arrested and charged with one count each of produce dangerous drug, possess dangerous drug, and possess utensil.

She is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 16.

Endanger property by fire, Bentley Park | Officers from the Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit yesterday arrested a 10-year-old Bentley Park boy after its alleged he set fire to furniture in a bedroom at a home in Bentley Park.

Police alleged the boy deliberately lit the fire before leaving.

The occupants were alerted to a fire alarm activation and extinguished the fire.

He was charged with one count or endangering property by fire. Police bail was refused, and he is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court today.

Appeal for information, Westcourt | Police are appealing for public assistance to help identify two male suspects involved in the theft of a woman’s handbag at about 1pm yesterday (Monday October 23).

The older woman was walking along the path near Cazalys at Westcourt when two unknown boys approached her from behind and snatched her handbag from her shoulder.

The pair were riding bicycles and continued riding along Mulgrave Road toward the intersection of McCoombe Street, before crossing Mulgrave Road and heading south toward Earlville with one boy carrying the woman’s handbag at the time.

The woman managed to get to a nearby business where police were called, and they commenced their investigation before taking the woman home and assisting with a locksmith.

Both boys are described as being of First Nation appearance, riding bicycles, with one wearing a blue coloured shirt.

Investigations are ongoing.
