Wilful damage, Bungalow

A 17-year-old Aurukun boy has been charged following an incident at an Aumuller Street hotel in the early hours of yesterday morning, January 13.

It will be alleged the boy entered the hotel just after 1am, and when asked by security to leave he allegedly lifted his shirt revealing a pair of scissors tucked into his waistband.

The boy left the venue a short time later before allegedly returning and taking a stool from an outdoor smoking area.

It will be further alleged the boy used the stool to smash the side window of a vehicle parked near the hotel.

Officers located the boy on Mulgrave Road, and he was taken into custody just after 2am.

He has been charged with one count each of assault, stealing, and wilful damage.

He is due to appear before Cairns Childrens Court tomorrow, January 15.

Vehicle charges, Redlynch

A 16-year-old Hope Vale boy has been arrested after being located by officers from the Cairns Dog Squad yesterday afternoon, January 13.

The reportedly stolen Toyota Rav4 the boy had been allegedly driving was subject to a tyre deflation device on the Kamerunga bridge just after 2:30pm and was abandoned near Redlynch Intake Road a short time later.

The boy fled from the vehicle into a cane field and was tracked by PD Elvis and his handler to the back of a nearby retirement village where he was taken into custody.

It will be further alleged the boy had been involved with a Mitsubishi Lancer stolen from an Arlington Esplanade address on January 5 and the break-in of a Castleton Entrance address on January 6.

He has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one of enter dwelling and commit.

He has been refused bail and will appear before Cairns Childrens Court today, January 14.

Wilful damage, Westcourt

A 28-year-old Bungalow man has been arrested after being located on Mulgrave Road in the early hours of this morning, January 14.

It will be alleged the man attempted to gain entry to a Westcourt service station just after 2am but was refused entry by staff.

The man allegedly picked up a metal sign from the front of the store and smashed one of the glass doors before then using the sign to smash a window.

He was located and arrested a short distance from the store approximately 15 minutes later.

He has been charged with one count of wilful damage.

He has been refused bail and will appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today, January 14.
