Vehicle theft and other charges, Smithfield:  A 26-year-old Smithfield man was charged yesterday morning following the location of an allegedly stolen ute at a Gaven Street residence.

Police were called to the address at around 8.20am in relation to another matter and located the suspect vehicle which was fitted with registration plates from another vehicle. Officers advised the man he was under arrest and he then fled on foot before being apprehended a short distance away and taken into custody.

He was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstructing police, possession of tainted property, possession of house breaking implements and possession of things used in the commission of a crime.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.

It will be alleged that the utility was stolen from a Stratford business premise in late May.

Fraud charges, Trinity Beach: Smithfield police charged a 38-year-old local man yesterday after he allegedly used false documents to obtain a lease on a luxury residential property at Trinity Park.

It will be alleged the man produced a driver licence and other supporting documentation in another name in order to secure the property at around 9.30am yesterday. The man was allegedly recognised by another party and police were advised.

Officers subsequently attended a Harbour Drive residence and the man was taken into custody. He was charged with one count each of fraud, forging a document and uttering a document and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 24.
