Fresh from the Brisbane Academy, the Cairns Police welcome their newest members to the ranks.
The four constables commenced orientation at the Cairns Police Station today and will hit the streets on Saturday, some experiencing shift work for the very first time.
The officers have recently graduated from the Police Academy in Brisbane and received their first posting to Cairns. Ranging in ages from 22-25yrs the new officers bring with them experience in a diverse range of employment including a diesel fitter, duty manager and a security guard. Two of the new officers also boast previous experience in the army and a Bachelor of forensic Science.
The First Year Constable’s will commence duty with a field training officer each in Cairns before gaining further experience by rotating through various police stations and specialist police areas over the next 12 months.
The officers are extremely keen to experience what policing has to offer and aspire to work in fields like the drug squad, dog squad, criminal investigation branch and the smaller one and two-man police stations scattered throughout northern Queensland.
“I look forward to the diverse range of work that policing has to offer. At this stage I am really interested in plain clothes detective work however I’m sure that is likely to change once I get a feel for the different areas of policing over the next few years” said Constable Tim Johnson.
We look forward to checking in with the officers in a few months to get their take on a life in policing.
