Police from near and far are strapping on boots and getting in some last minute training ready for the 34th Australasian Police Basketball Championships, which will be held in Cairns for the first time.
Northern Region Acting Assistant Commissioner Paul Taylor will officiate at the launch, which will be held on Sunday 3rd August at 8.15 am.
The competition runs from Sunday 3rd August to Friday 8th August and games will be played every day except Wednesday.
Retired Cairns Taipan, Constable Aaron Grabau will head back to the Fish Tank for some basketball action throughout the championships.
Former Cairns Marlin, Senior Constable Paul Latter from White Rock Police Beat will also play a key role for the Queensland men.
Aaron & Paul’s first game of the competition will be the opening game between Queensland and the reigning champs, Western Australia, which kicks off at 9.30am on Sunday 3rd August.

- Opening Game: 9.30am Sunday 3rd August (Qld Men Division 1 v reigning champions, Western Australia)
- Finals: Women’s Teams @ 12pm Friday 8th August
- Finals: Mens Teams @ 2pm Friday 8th August
Games Played: The Fish Tank, Cairns Basketball Centre, Hoare St, Manunda
The Basketball is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend and support police officers competing.
