Burglary and vehicle theft charges, Smithfield:  Detectives charged a 17-year-old Innisfail man yesterday after he was detained by Smithfield police early yesterday morning at Kewarra Beach.

The man was located on Poolwood Road at around 2:00am and was interviewed in relation to a number of matters. He was subsequently charged with three counts each of burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in Townsville and Innisfail between February 16 – 22.

Drug charges, Cooktown: A combined drug enforcement operation between Cooktown Police and the Far North District Tactical Crime has resulted in the charging of a further five men.

The arrests came as a result of a series of search warrants executed in the Rossville and Cooktown areas.

The men, aged between 21 – 42-years-old from the Rossville and Cooktown areas, were charged with a total of 20 offences including possession of a range of dangerous drugs, possession of drug utensils and unlawful possession of firearms.

They are scheduled to appear in the Cooktown Magistrates Court on March 12.

The latest charges come on the back of three other men who were charged with similar offences in the Cooktown area on Tuesday.

Death investigation, Parramatta Park:  Investigations are continuing into the suspicious death of a 27-year-old Cairns man who was located deceased near the intersection of Spence and Taylor Streets early yesterday morning.

Police were called to the scene around 3:30am and a crime scene was declared.
Detectives have established that the man was walking along McLeod Street at around 2.30am and are keen to fill in the gaps of what occurred in the ensuing 50 minute time period.
